Neck wrinkles occur to sensitive neck skin type due to many reasons. Age is a major factor for the appearance of not only neck wrinkles but also of other kinds of wrinkles. Too much exposure to the rays of the sun can also cause neck wrinkles.

Those who smoke are most likely to develop neck wrinkles that does who do not smoke at all. A specific kind of sleeping position may also be a cause of neck wrinkles. However, neck wrinkles developed according to a certain sleeping position easily fades out especially when you are still young due to the youth’s skin resiliency.

Neck wrinkles may even extend up to the chest but these are separate wrinkles and are considered as chest wrinkles.

Some procedures that may help in getting rid of neck wrinkles are Botox injection, chemical peels and laser treatments.

Why You Got Neck Wrinkles?

Neck wrinkles can come and go, but should any appear they have a tendency to stay. They rarely go away on their own unless the cause has been weight gain. Rapid weight loss is sometimes blamed however, as is aging.

There are other times when they just happen to develop for no apparent reason. One reason they tend to hang around, no pun intended, is because the skin around the neck is somewhat thicker and tougher than is the case with many other parts or the body. Once the neck skin gets a little fold or bulge in it, flattening it out can be a challenge.

In addition, the fact that the neck is more often than not exposed to the elements makes a difference. When you receive lots of sun exposure without using sunscreen, your face and neck tend to develop small wrinkles while on other places on your body, such as on your underarms and ankles, the skin tends to stay smooth.

Neck wrinkles start to form when the connecting tissue of the skin and the underlying fat begin to deteriorate mainly due to lack of collage, creating gaps in damaged portion of the skin.

The top layer of the skin is made to sink into these gaps to form wrinkles. The neck wrinkles tend to be more noticeable when the skin becomes dry due to slowing down of age related oil production or lifestyle causing damage. The skin in the neck is delicate and thin, making it more likely to easily form wrinkles than in other skin areas of our body.

Another cause of neck wrinkles is repetitive motion. The neck is in motion almost constantly throughout the day, and during the night as well. Repetitive motion has a tendency to create deep lines in the skin. Almost everyone has them; it’s just that for many people they are barely visible, or at least not highly noticeable.

If you look closely at enough people, without seeming to stare at their necks, you will usually see a few lines, if not wrinkles. Little kids don’t count. Their skin is still quite elastic.

Genetics may or may not play a role, and there’s not too much you can do about growing older. If you start taking care of your skin while still young, or at least while your skin still has its elasticity, you can probably keep wrinkles away until you are very old and begin to feel you should have a few.

Why You Might Have Horizontal Wrinkles

There are those who have predominantly horizontal wrinkles on their neck, and those who have predominately vertical wrinkles. There are also those whose wrinkles take on a random pattern of horizontal, vertical, and diagonal lines.

Horizontal wrinkles are mostly caused by aging. The skin becomes less elastic over the years, and the force of gravity eventually begins to take a toll. Wrinkles due to aging are not always preventable, but can usually be delayed and to some extent minimized through proper skin care combined with proper lifestyle choices. Smoking obviously does nothing to keep your skin young looking.

Why You Might Have Vertical Wrinkles

Vertical wrinkles are usually either due to excessive sun exposure or keeping the head in an unnatural position for long periods of time. In this respect, when you are sleeping and your head is resting on a firm pillow, your neck assumes a somewhat unnatural position. We normally don’t walk around with our head tilted to one side, but we often sleep that way.
